“Ancient Flavors – From the Wild West to Irpinia”: the historic center of Torella dei Lombardi (Avellino), with the suggestive Candriano Castle, from July 27 to 29 will celebrate the roots of its illustrious fellow citizen Sergio Leone by becoming a large open-air set and transforming for the occasion into a village in perfect western style. Three days of events that, under the artistic direction of Roberto D'Agnese for Omast Eventi, will recall the legendary figure of the filmmaker who conquered Hollywood from Irpinia.
Now in its 24th edition and promoted by the Pro Loco Candriano of Torella dei Lombardi, in collaboration with the Municipal Administration of Torella dei Lombardi and a series of associations present and active in the Torella area, the event, traditionally aimed at reviving the ancient culinary traditions of the town, has been enriched in the last two years by opening this very interesting page dedicated to the western. Also this year there will be a western contamination, where it will be possible to follow a rich and varied Irpinia food and wine route immersed in the sounds and colors of Campanian folklore.
The aim of “Sapori Antichi” is to recapture the peculiar and characteristic aspects of the many western films by the famous director: settings, scenography, music, games and food of the far West that intertwine with the sounds and flavours of the Irpinia culture.
There are many surprises and new features in the 2018 edition. Especially for those who decide to participate in the event wearing western-themed or typical Irpinia-themed clothes. The final evening will be dedicated to them with the “The Good, the Ugly and the Irpinia” competition, which will see the participation of Gianni Simioli, Nicola Canonico and Mario Zamma. Those who own one will also have the opportunity to bring their own horse, which will participate in the Snaky Competition. The awards ceremony is always scheduled for the final evening. The event will begin on Friday, July 27th starting at 20.00:21.00 pm in Piazza Sergio Leone with the gathering of the Irpinia folk groups “Li Lassa e Piglia” and the Montemaranese Tarantella School. At 21.30:28 pm, performance by the students of class IV B of the “Criscuoli” Comprehensive Institute on the notes of the soundtrack of the film “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”. Followed by ancient sounds with the Bottari of Macerata Campania. At 21.00:21.30 pm, at the western village, performance of “L'Arpa e il Violino”, performance of soundtracks by Verdania Leone and Ivan Barbone. Also rich is the program for Saturday, July XNUMXth, in Piazza Sergio Leone, at XNUMX:XNUMX pm, performance by I Moifà. Followed by live performance by I Scommonecati. At the western village, at XNUMX:XNUMX pm, performance of “The Harp and the Violin”, soundtrack performance by Verdania Leone and Ivan Barbone. Followed by Sarcinel Country Band and “The true story of the rocking caciocavallo”, a theatrical show by the Clan H company “Go West! Go Irpinia! Or rather the true story of the rocking caciocavallo”, with Salvatore Mazza, Andrea De Ruggiero, Santa Capriolo, Felice Cataldo and Laura Tropeano.
On Sunday, July 29, at 21.00:21.30 p.m., in Piazza Sergio Leone, performance by Le Ninfe della Tammorra. Followed by a lottery drawing and awards ceremony for the “Il Buono, il Brutto e l'Irpino” competition with the participation of host Gianni Simioli, actor Nicola Canonico and showman Mario Zamma. At the western village, at 28:13.00 p.m. the western Orchestra will perform, followed by Barabba Blues. Every evening it will be possible to taste caciocavallo impiccato, pizzilli, sausages and beans and many other local specialties. It will also be possible to have lunch both on Saturday, July 29, at 22:XNUMX p.m. at the western village with lunch entitled “Giù la testa” and on Sunday, July XNUMX, at the Ruspoli Candriano castle, with lunch by chef Eduardo Portanova. The chef’s lunch will include ricotta made from Podolic milk in kataifi pastry on a cream of zucchini, courgette flower petals in batter and San Marzano tomato culis, organic wheat pacchero with Genoese lamb ragù flavoured with marjoram and summer truffle, pork millefeuille with porcini mushrooms and provola julienne and a dessert “Espressione di castagna”. Reservations for both lunches must be made by Sunday XNUMX July.
