Rome. "Weak and contradictory measures on gambling in the so-called Dignity Decree. The government limits itself to banning advertising but ends up financing the measure with new taxes on slot machines and video lotteries, which ruin millions of people." This was stated by Michela Rostan, Leu MP and vice-president of the Social Affairs Committee, on the sidelines of Minister Di Maio's hearing today. "Any form of advertising, even indirect, relating to games or bets with cash prizes will apparently be banned," the MP continues. However, the single tax (Preu) on slot machines and video lotteries is expected to be increased by 0,5%, bringing the respective rates to 19,5% and 6,5% of the proceeds. In short, the state, on the one hand, bans advertising and, on the other, intends to continue making money at the expense of the public. Much, much more needs to be done on this issue. We need to wage a civilized battle: combining the right to play and have fun with the right to not be stripped of all our possessions due to a subtle disease that must not be encouraged by the state. With a turnover of 86 billion euros a year, we have effectively become the largest gaming hall in Europe and the world. Fifty-six thousand video lotteries installed are impressive. A ban on advertising is not enough. We need to introduce strong measures. gambling restrictions”.
