Train derails in northern Turkey, 10 dead, 73 injured

A train derailed in Tekyrdag, northwestern Turkey, killing at least 10 people and injuring 73. According to local media, six of seven carriages derailed. Numerous ambulances arrived on the scene. The train, headed from Edirne to Istanbul, departed at 3:45 PM local time with 362 people on board. According to sources from the Ministry of Transport, five of six carriages derailed. The area where the accident occurred appears very muddy due to recent heavy rains. According to local media, the earth may have collapsed as a result. The conditions are also making rescue operations difficult. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yildirim are being kept informed of the situation by local authorities and are following the incident closely.
