Citizens and public employees must not feel like they are on two opposing sides. Instead, they must focus on the fact that those who are honest must commit to isolating those who are not. This, in short, is the message of the Civic Defender of Campania, Giuseppe Fortunato, who has returned to the delicate role assigned by the Regional Council of Campania after a long dispute and the appointment of another person by the legislative assembly of the current council. The occasion was a meeting with the press to take stock of the first week of activity after his return to the role of Civic Defender and Health Guarantor (an additional assignment of responsibilities that the Campania Council assigned to him in recent months) on July 14. "Enough with setting citizens against public employees and public employees against citizens" is Fortunato's reasoning for which "the real division is between those who do their duty and those who don't" for which the objective must be that "honest citizens and public employees isolate the dishonest". And in this perspective, "the Ombudsman will make every effort to bring the Public Administration back to serving the citizen". Among the actions already implemented, Fortunato cited the invitations to the Campania municipalities to "protect citizens' data, also by correctly appointing the 'Data Protection Officer'" and to "correctly appoint the 'Single Guarantee Committee' which also guarantees well-being in the workplace and combats any discrimination"; the request to "appoint Ombudsmen where mandatory to encourage their presence in the territories and facilitate access by citizens" with the commitment to exercise substitute powers in the event that this is not done. Fortunato then recalled that, in carrying out the functions of Guarantor of the right to Health, all cases that emerged "both from appeals and from documented press information" were addressed by proceeding with "inspections for serious and documented cases" with the intent not only to "highlight gaps, but to find solutions". Maximum commitment and attention will be directed “to the Emergency Departments for the protection of patients and operators”.
