The second installment of "Teatri in Blu," the second edition of the maritime theater festival conceived and directed by Vincenzo Albano and organized by the Erre Teatro cultural association, in collaboration with the Municipality of Cetara, will feature the Lecce-based theater company Principio Attivo Teatro on July 7th and 8th. The tuna fishery, which will be transformed into a stage for the occasion, will present "Digiunando davanti al mare" – Per un racconto su Danilo Dolci," a project by Giuseppe Semeraro, written by Francesco Niccolini, and starring Giuseppe Semeraro; directed by Francesco Saccomanno. Semeraro writes: “The figure of Danilo Dolci defies any attempt at classification: poet, intellectual, pedagogue. After a brief trip to Sicily, he decided to return and stand alongside the most disadvantaged, the dispossessed, the bandits as he himself called them. In the 1950s, he organized and promoted numerous demonstrations and strikes in defense of the rights of farmers, fishermen, and the unemployed. His activism earned him two nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize and international recognition for his work. During those same years, he worked with the farmers to design and build a clandestine radio station, a kindergarten, a dam, and a people's university, along with many other cultural projects. What interests me most about this figure are his human qualities, his great communicative power, and above all, the confidence he was able to inspire. These qualities allowed him to create a large popular movement that culminated in the great “Strike in Reverse,” a demonstration that called for the unemployed to go to work in protest, making themselves useful in jobs for the community. Danilo Dolci, together with the unemployed Sicilians, wanted to remind Italy as a whole that, according to the Italian Constitution, work is a right but also a duty if that work serves a public purpose. During the demonstration, Danilo Dolci was arrested along with some of his collaborators, and a trial followed that marked a profound watershed in postwar Italy.
