Six dates of Elvis Costello's European tour have been canceled. Six months ago, the British musician was diagnosed with cancer and now, after undergoing surgery to remove the malignant tumor, he needs rest. Costello himself announced the cancellation in a statement: "Fortunately, it was an aggressive but small form of cancer that could be surgically removed. My doctor called me and said, 'You're lucky, you should start playing the lottery.' I was relieved because I could start the tour before the operation." The surgery went well, and the singer-songwriter, composer, and guitarist, whose name is associated with the punk and new wave movements, apologizes to fans who have already purchased tickets – as the statement reads – "but rather than perform a subpar show or risk my health, I'd rather cancel the date."
The cancelled tour dates include Croatia, the United Kingdom, Austria, Norway and Sweden.
