The debut album by Castellammare di Stabia musician Alfredo Di Martino was presented yesterday in the foyer of the Supercinema in Castellammare di Stabia.
A musical journey that is influenced by Latin American but also French. Pianist then accordionist and harmonica player, his first album is also an intimate and intense journey with warm and evocative atmospheres. Free reeds, the name of his work (literally free reeds), was born from a passion for classical, jazz and South American music. Emotions and sensations that have long since become a project "Alfredo Di Martino accordion project" (in acronym Aldima) around Campania. Many artists from the Italian and international jazz scene are present on the album, from the pianist Michele Di Martino, brother of Alfredo to the saxophonist Daniele Scannapieco, the double bass player Tommaso Scannapieco and the drummer Luigi del Prete. And again: the singer Simona De Rosa, the drummer Domenico De Marco, the guitarist Adriano Guarino, the pianist Catello Cannavale, the drummer Antonio Mambelli and the bassist Pasquale De Angelis. Instead Maurizio Di Somma (R&MAGPARTNERS) created the Free Reeds logo by graphically translating the ideas of this musical project. From Astor Piazzolla to Richard Galliano, the inspiration of the artist from Castellammare di Stabia is a continuous becoming. Alfredo Di Martino manages to move with passion and creativity in various musical fields with important collaborations also in pop with Gianni Conte, Monica Sarnelli and Renzo Arbore.
"I started out as a pianist - says Alfredo Di Martino - but listening to the French accordionist Galliano made me fall in love with the concert accordion and its warm and melodious sounds, compared to the traditional folk one. I studied this instrument with artistic maturity as a self-taught artist and in an increasingly in-depth manner. My repertoire includes pieces by my favorite authors and pieces by other illustrious composers and three unreleased ones: Valse pour Lenny, Gianluca's song and Dimane. The first is a waltz in the style of Galliano's new musette, dedicated to my son Leonardo, the second is Latin jazz for my son Gianluca and the last, a jazz ballad, I composed on the text of a poem by my father Vincenzo. The album is a need of the soul to tell my being a musician. I want to thank the many friends who have shared the stage with me during these years of career and lent a hand in the making of the album, enriching this newborn and wonderful work with their background, their passion, their pathos”.
