The tragic death toll from the severe weather continuing to batter central and western Japan has risen to eight, with approximately 50 people missing, while torrential rains are expected to continue at least until Sunday. Five thousand members of the Self-Defense Forces, police, and firefighters have participated in search operations for people stranded by landslides and floods, after more than 500 homes were damaged. Evacuation orders now apply to over 3 million residents, as the risk of flooding and landslides intensifies, particularly in Hiroshima and Okayama prefectures.
