Political controversy is mounting in Gragnano following the sudden resignations of the two "pink quotas" of the Cimmino Council, councilors Annamaria Somma and Sara Elefante. While waiting to find their replacements, who must necessarily be women, a guessing game has begun on who will be the councilors. Among the most common rumors are those that the council should have a woman representing doctor and city councilor Martino Santarpia, and another from the list promoted by former deputy mayor Giovanni Caso, whose daughter Chiara is on the council. And today, the Opposition group United for Gragnano (Patrizio Mascolo, Silvana Somma, Anna Delle Donne, Giovanni Sorrentino, Antonio De Angelis, Salvatore Castrignano) has joined the political debate, explaining in a statement: "Two days ago, we learned through the local newspaper of the resignations of Councilors Annamaria Somma, responsible for Public Works, and Sara Elefante, responsible for Social Policies and Public Education. While we acknowledge and understand the inevitability of Councilor Somma's personal, rather than political, decision, dictated by a sudden incompatibility related to a public competition in which she won, and we are pleased about this, we are also surprised by Councilor Elefante's sudden action.
A real bolt from the blue, so to speak, as the Councilor, who puts important delegations in the hands of the mayor, is an expression of Gragnano Hub, a list that in these two years of Cimmino Administration has lorded it over and made the other majority councilors almost subordinate, relegating them to extremely and unfairly marginal roles. What amazes us is the fact that just a few days ago, a City Council was held where from the opposition benches we expressed some doubts regarding the work of the current municipal administration and we were promptly answered that things were going well and that everything was proceeding swimmingly, denying rumors of internal tensions and disagreements, also trying to reassure the citizens, disappointed by the scarcity of the current administrative action. The mayor has also always stated regarding a feared reset of his council, two years after his installation, that a winning team is not changed. Now there are two hypotheses: either Councilor Elefante was not part of this phantom winning team or the mayor has realized that his team is starting to lose. If it were possible, we ask Councilor Elefante or whoever to explain to us the reasons and problems that led him to resign and we also ask the Mayor to report to the Council as soon as possible and to immediately appoint new councilors to deal with the evident difficulties of our country, avoiding useless waste of time, chasing personalisms and various egocentrisms that are not good for the country".
