The fire at the plastics storage site is not yet under control. As a precaution, a family of three (father, mother, and son) was evacuated from a house near the fire site. However, no one was harmed. Waste at the site is separated into paper, plastic, and aluminum. "Even today, my people are forced to close their windows due to yet another toxic fire in the Land of Fires. This time, a plastics storage facility has caught fire," Minister of Economic Development and Labor Luigi Di Maio wrote on his Facebook page, commenting on the massive fire. San Vitaliano, in the Naples area, where a company for recycling and storing eco-bales caught fire. And he warns: “There are no more excuses. Now we are in government and my people have the right to breathe. I spoke to Minister Costa who knows this issue well and cares about it. Sergio Costa immediately activated the Carabinieri Ecological Operations Unit”. “This – adds Di Maio – is yet another fire that concerns waste storage and recycling plants. Almost 300 in two years throughout Italy. An impressive number that cannot be considered random”. “Unlike what is reported in some press releases, it should be noted that the fire broke out inside warehouses used for storing materials deriving from the separate collection of solid urban waste and bulky materials. It does not in any way affect sites used for storing eco-bales”. This was announced by the vice-president and councillor for the Environment of the Campania Region, Fulvio Bonavitacola, in a note. "I would like to thank the firefighters for the prompt and massive intervention at the waste treatment company's facilities in the Municipality of San Vitaliano, where a fire broke out in the afternoon involving material in storage - the text reads - Unfortunately, the episode affects an area already affected by general problems of air pollution. I have asked Arpac, which is already operating on site with specialized personnel, to constantly monitor the situation, with particular attention to the fumes. Starting tomorrow morning, a mobile laboratory will be added to the pre-existing fixed detection station already located in the area for more complete air monitoring in the entire area surrounding the fire sites".
