Historic referee Claudio Pieri passed away at the age of 77.
Pieri, a native of Pescia, became a referee in the Genoa section. During his career he became very well known, soon establishing himself as a referee in Serie A and later becoming an international referee. His debut in the top Italian league dates back to 1975, and he ended his career in 1987. After hanging up his whistle, Pieri collaborated with the Italian Referees Association.
Pieri, who has lived in Rapallo for years, leaves behind his partner Liliana and his children Valentina and Tiziano.
