"The plant has been operating in a reduced and discontinuous manner for months now - explains the Mayor of Santa Marina Giovanni Fortunato - and the mayors of the municipalities involved have been forced to cyclically suspend the collection of the separate fraction after repeated chaos based essentially on presumed logistical, organizational and economic reasons, derived from the crisis situation in which the provincial company Eco Ambiente, manager of the Stir, finds itself. This time it is a fire that has led to the closure of the plant. It is well known that this continuous and now structural emergency has led to the establishment, in the surrounding area, of numerous private waste disposal plants, which practice significantly higher prices and where some municipalities, in full emergency, are forced to deliver the dry fraction with a significant increase in costs that inevitably fall on the citizens. It is self-evident that in a territory and in a sector where criminal organizations reign supreme, the suspicion of the logical sequence between cause and effect arises spontaneously. It is no longer tolerable - Fortunato continues - that it is, once again, the Campania Region and I say only the Campania Region and in particular the Province of Salerno that suffers the unfortunate consequences of a waste emergency. It is clear that in all of this weighs also and above all the shameful spectacle of institutional incapacity of the Regional Administration of Campania, responsible for the integrated waste cycle, headed by President De Luca, incapable of implementing a concrete plan to reorganize the waste cycle and impotent with respect to an emergency situation that has become grotesque. It is necessary that the National Anti-Corruption Authorities and the Judicial Authorities verify, each for their own competences, any management and political responsibilities, as well as the presence of any mafia infiltration co-responsible for this continuous and no longer tolerable state of emergency".
