The atmosphere of darkness and candles returns, making Nabilah, in via Spiaggia Romana 15, the stage for “#LibereEmozioni. Racconti in Spiaggia”, a cultural event organized in collaboration with Napoli da Vivere, the first blog born in Naples to tell the most beautiful things about the city.
The protagonist of the event on Friday 13 July (opening Nabilah: 19.00; show starts: 21.30), the playwright Mimmo Borrelli with his amazing “Napucalisse”. A beautiful and extraordinary piece of our theatre, where metrics and words, true and genuine, lean with caution and study on the music of the multi-instrumentalist Antonello Della Ragione, who invents fluid and strong sounds for him.
The title blends the words “Naples” and “Apocalypse,” but it does not at all announce a whining about the most beloved and controversial city in the world. In Borrelli’s dramaturgy, the cliché becomes, rather, a lever for an “eccentric” turn, which offers the viewer a dialogue between three emblematic characters: The Wise Old Man/Cinello (in the guise of Pulcinella, the typical local intellectual who is both arrogant and slothful), The Assassin 'i Cartone (the merciless and silent indifferent person) and Vesuvius (the inflexible and far-sighted judge constituted by conscience). And so, Borrelli places the viewer in front of a slightly tired Pulcinella, a furious and impertinent Vesuvius, devils and angels, people who run and curse. There is passion and fear. There is horror and love.
The lectern is there to hold the text but the audience does not attend a reading tout court, although we speak of an "oratorio in reading". The body and its movements, the vocal timbre, the intensity of the performance captivate and open to reflections that have never been posed with such incisiveness, strength and innovation.
