NaDir Festival IV once again involves activists from the NDO \ Napoli Direzione Opposta network and the many heterogeneous social realities that operate in the territories of Naples and the Soccavo neighborhood. This is the culmination of a year of political and social activity in the territories and alongside their inhabitants and, at the same time, a year of artistic, musical and cultural production curated by the NaDir Collective inside the Scugnizzo Liberato, one of the seven liberated spaces recognized as common goods of the city of Naples located in the heart of the Montesanto neighborhood.
NaDir Festival IV, for the first time, will be open for two days entirely dedicated to social activities for the neighborhood, its inhabitants and the city as a whole.
The Polifunzionale di Soccavo will open its doors to the public on Wednesday 18th with an aperitif based on popular Campania music together with the Compagnia d' 'o tammurro and with the final appointment of the Cinema sotto le stelle review, organized by CAP 80126, while Thursday 19th will be a day entirely dedicated to the little ones, thanks to the organizations that during the year, build the social after-school programs and the network of Social Carnivals throughout the city: Rete Strummolo, Mammutbus del Centro Territoriale Mammut di Scampia, Associazione Davide Bifolco – Il dolore non ci ferma ONLUS.
Friday 20th will also host the cycle of workshops and round tables Hack the city/Make the city!, two days of meetings, insights and presentations on the ever-timely themes of metropolitan common goods, the touristification of cities and the abandonment of the suburbs.
Of course, there will be great live music, the protagonist of the three final evenings of the festival: it starts on Friday 20 July with a day dedicated to hip hop from Campania. It starts with a Jam Session for kids curated by the Youth Space of Bagnoli and continues, on stage, with the new project by Gheto, Ruocco and Dj Times of Soffitta Produzioni. Following, Oyoshe and Peppoh, two rappers who have been well-known for some time and who will open the concert of La Famiglia; Twenty years after the historic album Quarantunesimo parallelo, the founders of rap in Neapolitan return to the city after years of hiatus for an unmissable concert where Shaone, Dj Simi and Polo will play live together with a band of exceptional musicians.
Saturday 21st July will be dedicated to rock and alternative: on stage the dark wave of Hapax, Soviet Soviet, spearheads of Italian post punk/new wave that have been exported all over the world for years, followed by Sula Ventrebianco, a cult band of the Campania rock scene that the NaDir audience has come to know for its devastating live performances. The event will close with A Toys Orchestra, veterans of the alternative and pop rock scene, fresh from the release of their latest album Lub Dub.
It closes on Sunday 22nd July with a big party dedicated to the Soccavo neighbourhood, the Rione Traiano and the whole city, a day with free admission with a free donation whose protagonist will be Enzo Gragnianiello, one of the most authoritative voices of contemporary Neapolitan song and which will close with the first Neapolitan concert by Vale Lambo, one of the most followed and original rappers of the new Neapolitan scene, formerly part of the duo L Scimmie and recently released his first solo album, 'Angelo'. Each day will open with the performance of a group chosen from those who participated in the independent music festival Gravità Zero, organized by the NaDir Collective at the Scugnizzo Liberato: respectively, the crossover rock of L'Ultima Haine, the psychedelic blues of Babël and the pop of LeVacanze.
During the five days of the festival, the Polifunzionale di Soccavo will host a market area dedicated to self-productions, music and illustration, outdoor screenings, exhibitions, debates and workshops on the hot political topics of the moment, games and activities for the little ones and info points aimed at describing the realities, activities and offers that are proposed from below in the city of Naples and its metropolitan area; in addition to a food & drink area equipped and attentive to the world of local productions and self-productions.
It will also be possible to set up tents and stay overnight in the free camping area, a tree-lined lawn inside the Polifunzionale area; a way of not having to worry about returning home and spending a few more hours at the festival, but also a gesture of symbolic reappropriation of a public space in a suburb often denied to small joys.
A heterogeneous calendar that renews one of the historical challenges of NaDir: to unite the musical world with debates, panels, assemblies, performances, exhibitions, self-productions, everything that concerns culture, aggregation, sociality and happy passions.
A set of moments that will once again be hosted in the setting of Soccavo, a suburban neighborhood that is constantly and inevitably forgotten in everyday life by the institutions and excluded from traditional cultural circuits in an area, that of the enormous structure of the Polifunzionale, which represents an expensive monument to neglect, abandonment and the inability to imagine a future.
Today the Polifunzionale is a place animated by experiences of horizontal management and co-decision by the subjects who live there, after a long struggle in whose path the NaDir / Napoli Direzione Opposta Festival has also been and is being inserted. And, next to the green areas of the Polifunzionale, there is now the Centro Autogestito Piperno 80126, a new liberated space in which a heterogeneous community of inhabitants, students, children, women, elderly, unemployed men and women from Soccavo gathers and manages, actively working not only to report waste and neglect, but intervening directly to build new forms of sociality and aggregation by intervening from the bottom, in a self-financed and rigorously independent manner.
