Carabinieri officers from the Quarto station arrested 34-year-old Ernesto Rubino, of Via Crocillo, for resisting arrest and aggravated threatening a public officer. He was already known to law enforcement for common crimes. An off-duty officer, who was driving his car in civilian clothes on Via Crocillo, noticed a young man, later identified as Rubino's 16-year-old nephew with no criminal record, standing at the side of the road, pulling out a revolver and firing a shot into the air, apparently for no apparent reason. After stopping a short distance ahead and alerting 112, the officer got out of the car, brandishing his service weapon, and identifying himself, ordered the suspect to stop. The young man fled but was pursued, caught, and apprehended after a brief foot chase.
When the Carabinieri of the Quarto branch arrived on site, it was found that the gun was a blank gun with the red cap removed.
The minor's relatives, including his uncle, Ernesto, took to the streets; the latter addressed the soldier with threatening words and gestures. The Quarto carabinieri stopped him and arrested him. The minor was reported and handed over to his parents. The fake weapon was seized. Rubino Ernesto is under house arrest awaiting a direct trial.
