Naples. The Financial Police Unit of the Naples Guardia di Finanza has executed precautionary measures, both personal and real, against several longtime supporters of the Di Lauro and Bocchetti clans, placing one individual under house arrest and seizing the assets of five hotels, a car dealership, and several bank accounts. A 73-year-old man, considered a supporter, has been arrested. The investigation, coordinated by prosecutors Stefania Castaldi and Henry John Woodcock, has led to a significant body of investigations conducted against several family groups, which have uncovered numerous clues and evidence of the business network exploited by the clans to launder and reinvest illicitly generated capital.
Among those affected by the measure is Pietro Virgilio, 73, alias 'Pierino o' infermieri', believed by investigators to be affiliated with the Di Lauro clan, with a past as a historic smuggler of foreign manufactured tobacco and now the recipient of the detention measure under house arrest. In his period of greatest criminal expression, Virgilio had been among the main players in the clandestine trade of blondes in the 90s, accumulating a considerable fortune. A company in Casoria, active in the trade of motor vehicles, is attributable to him, which has been seized. Carmine Acquavella, who died in 2014, was, instead, affiliated with the 'Bocchetti' clan, of which, after the usual 'apprenticeship', he had become the treasurer, taking care of the laundering of the illicit proceeds. In order to pursue his criminal intent, he availed himself of the support of both family members and acquaintances, including his wife and children. Among the commercial activities used for the reinvestment of the 'black' assets, there are five hotel facilities located between Naples, Casavatore, Giugliano in Campania and Melito di Napoli, now subject to property restrictions.
