Naples. The Railway Police Service yesterday ordered the implementation of a national safety measure called RAIL SAFE DAY, with extraordinary checks in the railway sector on suspicious persons, street vendors, passengers and luggage, which the Railway Police Department for Campania carried out in all stations in Campania where Polfer units are present.

As part of the aforementioned checks, officers from the Campania Railway Police Department reported a criminal who was caught near the automatic ticket machines at Naples Central Station, while he was trying to defraud a traveler. Following a script that is now well-known to the Polfer, these scammers approach travelers intent on buying tickets at the self-service machines, offering to buy the ticket for them, thus saving them money. Through the so-called “Global Pass”, the scammers enter a random code number into the automatic ticket machine, obtaining a ticket that will be unusable when checked on board the train. The unsuspecting victim pays the scammer a sum for this invalid travel ticket with a nominal value of ten euros, generally equal to half the cost of the ticket, and is fooled by the presence, on the ticket itself, of the wording relating to the requested journey.
A similar system was used by TM, a 20-year-old Moroccan, to deceive a tourist who was buying a ticket to Rome Termini. The man placed himself between the buyer and the self-service machine, almost by force, offering to complete the purchase for him. To conclude the transaction, he asked for a 3 euro note, and then gave the buyer the ticket and the change in coins of about 10 euros. While the tourist counted the change, the man tried to walk away before he could ask him to account for the loss. The timely intervention of the Railway Police allowed them to discover the scam: the criminal had not only stolen 15 euros in change, but had also given the traveler a ticket valid for a child up to 50 years of age, which has a price XNUMX% lower than that of the equivalent travel ticket for an adult. If the Polfer patrol and the Company Protection personnel had not promptly intervened, the unaware buyer would have undertaken the journey with an invalid ticket. Once the dynamics of the facts were ascertained, confirmed by the victim in the complaint, the man was reported in a state of freedom.

In the province of Salerno, as part of the RAIL SAFE DAY, the activity carried out at the stations of Salerno, Battipaglia, Sapri and Nocera Inferiore, has allowed the following results to be achieved:

• No. 415 people identified;
• No. 190 bags following checked travellers;
• No. 1 administrative sanction.
