Carabinieri from the National Anti-Surgery Unit (NAS) visited the Vascular Surgery department of Naples' Ospedale del Mare today to gather documentation as part of their investigation into staff absences to attend the party hosted by the head physician Francesco Pignatelli at a restaurant in Pozzuoli. According to yesterday's complaint by Francesco Emilio Borrelli, regional councilor for the Green Party and member of the Health Committee, the department "was closed and all patients were discharged during the night between Friday and Saturday to allow doctors and nurses to attend the party hosted at a venue in Pozzuoli by the new head physician to celebrate his new appointment."
The director of the ASL Napoli 1, Mario Forlenza, announced yesterday that he had ordered "the suspension of the head of Vascular Surgery, Francesco Pignatelli, pending further investigations". In these hours, the director Forlenza, who also ordered an inspection of the department, is meeting with the head.
