The Vascular Surgery department of the new Ospedale del Mare in Naples "was closed and all patients were discharged during the night between Friday and Saturday to allow doctors and nurses to attend the party hosted by the new head physician at a club in Pozzuoli to celebrate his new appointment." Regional Councilor Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a member of the Green Party's Health Committee, reported the incident, stating that he had received several reports of this. "I contacted the director of the Naples 1 Local Health Authority, Mario Forlenza, and the medical director of the Ospedale del Mare, Giuseppe Russo, to request confirmation of this incredible incident," he added. For his part, Forlenza announced that he had ordered "the suspension of the head physician of Vascular Surgery, Francesco Pignatelli, pending further investigations." "I will formalize the measure on Monday," he said. Borelli explains: "The entire department would have organized itself between holidays, shifts, and sick leave, so that no one would miss the event." An inspection will begin Monday in the Vascular Surgery Complex Operating Unit at the Ospedale del Mare in Naples following the suspension of the head physician. The announcement was made by the general director of the ASL NA1, Mario Forlenza, who has suspended—"for precautionary reasons in light of reports from multiple sources"—the head physician, Dr. Francesco Pignatelli. The incident concerns the closure of the department "with the discharge of all patients during the night between Friday and Saturday to allow doctors and nurses to attend the party organized at a club in Pozzuoli by the new head physician to celebrate his new position," as reported by the Green Party regional councilor, Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
