The municipal administration will participate in the funeral of the young Salvatore Caliano, who died yesterday after falling while he was working on the skylight of a building in via Duomo in Naples and through the words of the mayor Luigi de Magistris expresses "the deepest condolences for an absurd death that devastates families and friends and moves the city". "Salvatore dies of hunger for work at 22 years old in Naples as a worker died days ago at 69 years old in Milan. Unemployment and precariousness, the death of rights, dignity and human lives, are a true national emergency", concludes the mayor. The national secretary of DemA, Enrico Panini, also wanted to comment on the tragedy: "I express my and our condolences to the family of Salvatore, one of the many honest and industrious sons of Forcella, who died yesterday to earn 35 euros. Salvatore had chosen a job anyway and not other ways to earn a few pennies - adds the national secretary of Dema - and this tragedy testifies to a radical rejection of a criminal system that promises you immediate and easy earnings. Rather than rest, during his break hour from his barista job, he had decided to earn a little extra with honest work. A choice that cost him his life. And it is unacceptable that someone should die like this". "Salvatore - Panini recalls - is only the latest victim of a continuous massacre, which in 2017 took the lives of over 600 workers, according to official data". And this is why Enrico Panini, on behalf of the DemA movement, makes an appeal to politics: "It is time to make a concrete commitment to implementing our Constitution, guaranteeing safety in the workplace: we need a concrete commitment at a national level, with stringent rules and greater controls. Every day thousands of young people like Salvatore choose which side to be on, sweating and working hard: they must be defended and protected with a no-holds-barred fight against undeclared and unsafe work".
