The City Council of Naples, upon a proposal from Councilors Del Giudice and Piscopo, has approved the project for the "Fence of the Monumental Fountain of Monteoliveto, also known as the Fountain of Charles II." The project, developed based on the design of the pre-existing 19th-century fence, will be entirely constructed, following an agreement with the City of Naples, by the Naples Environmental Hygiene Services Company, through a donation aimed at protecting the fountain. The iron fence, anchored to the fountain's stone base, is 1,5 meters high along its entire perimeter to provide an unobstructed view of the pedestal with lions and eagles, which supports the pyramidal obelisk on which stands the bronze statue of Charles II of Spain. The fence is equipped with a small gate on the inner side of the square, where the base has a minimum height of 10 cm, to allow for cleaning and maintenance. "The new fence," the councilors say, "is the first step in protecting the property, ahead of the subsequent restoration project, already planned. We therefore thank Asia, which has chosen to undertake the construction of the fence, recognizing this need and transforming it into a concrete act of respect for our cultural heritage." "With this project," the councilors conclude, "we will be able, as many have requested, to ensure greater durability and effectiveness for the fountain's restoration project."
