Pompeii, elderly woman missing for three days found dead near excavations

Pompeii. A 75-year-old woman was found dead a few dozen meters from Villa dei Misteri. The woman, suffering from Alzheimer's disease, had disappeared from her home last Friday. After three days of searching, she was found by the military a little more than a hundred meters from her home that overlooks the excavations. The woman, Leda Cuomo, had no children and lived with her husband who was also ill and not self-sufficient. She had left home last Friday evening and never returned. So her husband alerted the Carabinieri who began the search but for three days there was no trace. The woman's body was found yesterday afternoon in thick vegetation between a tourist bus parking lot and the Circumvesuviana tracks. The magistrate on duty ordered the seizure of the body for an autopsy that will establish the cause of death.
