Movable and immovable assets worth 45 million euros were seized by the Police in the provinces of Caserta and Frosinone from the brothers Gaetano and Silvestro Balivo, considered to be key entrepreneurs of the Casalesi boss Michele Zagaria. The provision was issued by the Prevention Measures section of the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere on the proposal of the DNA led by Federico Cafiero de Raho who conducted the investigation. The Minister of the Interior Matteo Salvini had spoken about the news in a tweet yesterday.
100 properties located in the Caserta municipalities of Trentola Ducenta, Sessa Aurunca and Aversa, and in Fiuggi (Frosinone), five companies operating in the construction sector and in the orthopedic products sector, financial accounts opened at 14 banks, 13 vehicles, including 9 cars, three trucks and a motorbike, have ended up under lock and key. The two Balivos were involved in the investigation by the Naples DDA that in 2015 overwhelmed the municipal administration of Trentola Ducenta, with the arrest of the then mayor Michele Griffo and other administrators, in particular in relation to the construction of the Jambo shopping centre, believed to be the creation of the boss Michele Zagaria; according to the anti-mafia prosecutors, the Griffo administration was heavily infiltrated by the Zagaria clan, so much so that it was then dissolved due to Camorra infiltration until the elections a few weeks ago.
The Balivo brothers are part of this context, and according to investigators, they would have reached a position of absolute importance in the construction and orthopedic products sector thanks to the support of the clan; Gaetano, 57, a key role, was accused of Camorra association in 2015, due to the relationship of trust with Zagaria that continued throughout the entire period of the boss's fugitive status, which lasted over 15 years; during this period, Balivo would have distributed the orders and directives given by the boss throughout the territory, would have invested the clan's illicit proceeds in legal productive activities, also acting as a front for the boss.
The entrepreneur would also have provided "fresh and clean money" to the clan, receiving in exchange support in his business, thus managing to obtain contracts thanks to the gang's power of persuasion, thus altering competition to the detriment of honest entrepreneurs. Over the years, the equally important role of 64-year-old Silvestro also came to light, first accused of external complicity, then, thanks to the statements of numerous collaborators of justice, of being organic to the clan, so much so that he became one of the main entrepreneurs in the earthmoving sector, which has always been the "core business" of the Zagaria clan.
