“A female dog was stoned to death in her garden, near the Circumvesuviana station in Torre Annunziata – Oplontis. The animal’s body was found lifeless by its owner”. The non-profit organization Animalisti Italiani reports. “It is a brutal crime – it continues – that we cannot tolerate. It is yet another act of violence against our voiceless brothers. We will join the civil action to bring justice to an innocent being, who wanted to live and had to live. This latest story of ‘inhuman’ cruelty highlights a legislative gap in animal protection. The application of penalties does not go hand in hand with an increasingly widespread sensitivity towards animals and their well-being. There is a need to punish crimes of animal abuse and killing with greater severity. These criminals represent a social danger and must be stopped. The insensitivity towards these acts is indicative of a historical moment in which every sense of humanity and responsibility has been lost”. Walter Caporale, President of Animalisti Italiani Onlus, concludes the note: "Whoever saw something should report the incident, even anonymously. The garden is clearly visible from the houses overlooking the railway, so the brutal episode could not have gone unnoticed".
