Jazz atmospheres in the splendid setting of the Roman Baths of Baia, in the Archaeological Park of the Campi Flegrei, for the first time an exceptional stage for the Pozzuoli Faber Jazz Festival. Over the weekend, the Baths will come alive on July 14 with Brazilian sounds in the extraordinary concert of one of the greatest interpreters of Brazilian music of all time, Yamandu Costa, guitarist and composer, applauded by Paco De Lucia. His interpretations with the 7-string guitar range from milongas to tangos, zambas, and chamanè.
On July 15, the harsh and sensual sound with African colors of Abbey Lincoln will be released, in the homage of the Ada Montellanico Quintet, with the project Abbey's Road feat. Giovanni Falzone. Abbey Lincoln, a singer and songwriter of great originality, was a legendary figure not only in the musical field but for the entire Black Power movement. Politically engaged in the 60s within the black community, she made her music a sounding board in denouncing the racial discrimination experienced by the African-American population. Ada Montellanico retraces Abbey's path, retracing the narrative force of her compositions, the African character of her sound universe and her profound aggressiveness. (Ada Montellanico – voice; Giovanni Falzone – trumpet; Massimo Pirone -Trombone; Jacopo Ferrazza-double bass; Valerio Vantaggio – drums)
The weekend at the Spa is preceded by the concert on July 13 at Maison Toledo (via Pendio San Giuseppe 18, Pozzuoli) with the lively music of the Dr. Jazz&Dirty Bucks Swing Band. Swing notes, which connect the two wonderful and creative cities of Naples and New Orleans, from Toledo to storyville, from Carosone to Armstrong, from the mandolin to the banjo, in a fusion between European tradition and Afro-American music (Alfredo “Dr. Jazz” Verga – guitar and vocals; Alessandro “Mr. Groove” Panella – double bass; Luciano “Mr. Chugga” De Ioanni – drums; Ettore “Mr. Dirty” Patrevita – Sax).
The Festival is organized by the Jazz & Conversation Association, which has been committed for years to testifying its role in the culture of the Campi Flegrei, through a path in which music meets the territory, the charm of its landscapes, its history and its contradictions. This year the Festival has the support of Faber Italia srl, a Campania company that produces coffee machines, leader in the sector for mechanics and design, particularly attentive to cultural ferments. It benefits from the collaboration of the Archaeological Park of the Campi Flegrei, the moral patronage of the Municipality of Pozzuoli, the Municipality of Bacoli, the AACST of Pozzuoli, the Order of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts of Naples.
