On Sunday, September 2nd, "La Gita," a short film directed by Salvatore Allocca with a soundtrack by Ivan Granatino, will be screened at the XNUMXth Venice International Film Festival. Produced by Marvin Film and Vega's Project, the short tells the story of two teenagers: Magalie, a student raised in Italy by Senegalese parents, and Marco, her classmate, who grapple with the issue of citizenship rights in our country. A story of love and violated rights, it's entirely relevant to the dark times we're living in Italy, amid racism and xenophobia. Ivan Granatino's music accompanies Magalie and Marco's love story amidst the context of a school trip denied to the young Senegalese girl raised in Italy. The lyrics are by Sergio Donati and the arrangement is by Massimo D'Ambra: "Through my songs, with La Gita we try to address recurring themes in my music," explained Ivan Granatino, "which has always been based on love and the desire for equality for all. La Gita tells us how love is stronger than any discrimination and, therefore, can contribute to the demand for equal rights. Racism is an act of hate," added the singer. "Music can give strength to love and help fight discrimination."
The director explains that Granatino's songs were a very specific choice because in his music I found the right sound. "The songs help to contextualize the story in a metropolitan and modern way both geographically (the short is set in Naples) both to underline the romantic drama and youthful anger that underlie the emotional conflict of the protagonists". With Fatou Mbengue and Filippo Scotti in the roles of Magalie and Marco, story by Salvatore Allocca and Massimo De Angelis, "La Gita" will be screened in the "MigrArti" section of the cycle of short films in competition at the Venice Film Festival.
