Alessandro Garlaschi allegedly fatally stabbed Jessica Valentina Faoro, 19, not 40, but 85 times, following an argument likely stemming from his unrequited advances. He then burned the young woman's torso, leaving her lifeless. This is the result of the investigation, recently concluded by prosecutor Cristiana Roveda in anticipation of a request for indictment, against the 39-year-old tram driver. He is charged with murder aggravated by cruelty and frivolous motives, and vilification of a corpse for the horrific murder that occurred last February in his apartment on Via Brioschi in Milan. He is also charged with impersonation for introducing his wife (who was found not involved in the investigation) as his sister. According to investigators' reconstruction, the 19-year-old, who was living in the man's home as an "au pair," had gone out on a date with a boy the night before she was killed and returned home around 21 p.m. Half an hour later, the 39-year-old accompanied his wife to her mother-in-law's house in Novegro, near Milan, where she had spent the night. He had also left a note for the young woman on her bedside table, which read: "Hi, baby, you know, I love you. And I really care about you! Tonight I hope you'll be doing 'something' for me besides the DVD, but you have to do everything and tell me when to start. Be careful with the guy tonight..." Garlaschi himself stated in his statement that Jessica allegedly told him, "You're too close to me." She then injured him, likely threatening him not to come near her, with minor stab wounds to his hands. From there, the man's murderous rage apparently began. During questioning, however, he claimed he had no recollection of what had happened, only remembering stabbing Jessica three times and then "darkness." The tram driver, who denied any sexual advances, admitted to investigators that he liked the young woman and said that in exchange for housework, in addition to housing her, he would pay for her clothes, her hair, and even find her a job. He added that the day after the brutal murder, she was scheduled for an interview. Garlaschi's defense attorney, Francesca Santini, has appointed a consultant, a psychiatrist, to assess her mental health and her capacity to understand and decide. This Saturday, the expert appointed by the lawyer will travel to the prison to continue his investigations.
