A Neapolitan con man in Valtellina has been arrested. He attempted to use the tried-and-true ploy of a fake accident on a victim's relative to scam elderly people. He succeeded with an elderly woman, defrauding her of €3 and several gold jewelry pieces. This scam sparked the investigation that led the Sondrio Police Headquarters' Flying Squad to arrest 37-year-old Gennaro Vaccaro of Naples, a convicted felon. Vaccaro had previously pulled off a similar heist against an elderly woman in Lecco, but was unsuccessful with another woman in Pavia and another in Sondrio. Investigations by Deputy Commissioner Carlo Bartelli have traced the car the con man used to travel to Valtellina, rented in Naples by a friend of his. The car's whereabouts are now being investigated by the police. Naples Mobile Police officers, executing an arrest warrant issued by the investigating judge of the Sondrio court, arrested the Neapolitan man today. He was placed under house arrest on charges of aggravated fraud and false pretences.
