“Dialogues from Behind the Scenes” on stage at the Teatro Don Bosco (via Roma 73) in Caserta, Sunday 18 November at 17.00:XNUMX pm.
The show is created and produced by the company Arte&Mani- Deaf Italy Onlus, which for many years has been involved in an innovative form of theatre: the Teatro Sordo LIS, Italian Sign Language. This theatrical form takes inspiration from the culture and language of the deaf, returning it in its entirety to a hearing audience. In fact, this project, in which actors and theatre technicians actively collaborate, aims to promote shows born
from original dramaturgies, in which LIS (Italian Sign Language) and Italian participate equally, as protagonists, and are used with the same linguistic register. This allows both a deaf and hearing audience to embrace the emotions of the theatrical story, to understand the characters more easily and therefore to be participants in the "theatrical machine".
The Teatro Sordo LIS is growing unstoppably precisely because of its creative and educational potential. The project of “Arte&Mani – Deaf Italy Onlus” deals with staging classical and contemporary texts based on an original dramaturgy born directly both in LIS and in Italian, without omitting some sporadic literary quotations, it has the objective of also conveying aspects of deaf culture and contributing to the enrichment of LIS deaf literature. For this purpose, for two years now
For years the company “Arte&Mani – Deaf Italy Onlus” has produced original LIS Deaf Theatre shows.
“Dialogues from Behind the Scenes” was born from an original idea by Dario Pasquarella, founder of Teatro Sordo LIS, that is, a form of inclusive theatre in which LIS (Italian Sign Language) and Italian are treated equally, with equal opportunity for linguistic and emotional expression.
The company Arte&Mani – Deaf Italy Onlus of Rome intends with this and other shows
take a stand in favor of the Institutional recognition of the Italian Sign Language. At the moment, Italy is one of the few nations that has not implemented this recognition necessary to promote the right to accessibility, autonomy and inclusion of deaf people.
The show, following the style of "metatheatre", is based entirely on the description of what happens behind the scenes of a theatre before going on stage, when the final preparations are in full swing and anything can still happen. The protagonists, Gennaro and Alfonso, are two men in their fifties, born and raised in the surroundings of Naples, who have been working together for years. Gennaro is the acclaimed protagonist of many shows, he is spoiled, nervous, Catholic to the point of paroxysm, and belongs to an "important" family, not to mention mafia; but he is also a gay who hides his nature from everyone, even from himself, and he is deaf, so much so that in the theatre he is always accompanied by an interpreter. Alfonso on the other hand is a simple make-up artist, but he has an extraordinary talent for acting, he knows Sign Language and for this very reason he is forced to follow Gennaro in his extravagances, he is an atheist and above all he has never made a secret of his homosexuality. On the opening night of the new show, the unthinkable happens: the vocal actor doesn't show up! Gennaro and Alfonso, now completely dependent on each other, will be
forced to confront each other sincerely, as they have never done before; they will have to get to know each other,
overcome every fear, accept yourself and thus make your dreams come true.
The show is written and directed by Dario Pasquarella, Maria Sara Mirti edited the Italian text and the dramaturgy.
