Matera. Accused, in conjunction with other people to be identified, of criminal association aimed at fraud and attempted fraud against elderly people from the Matera area, two men - Giovanni Marino, 61, and Umberto Evangelista, 30, both from Naples - were arrested as part of a joint operation by the Police and the Carabinieri. The details of the two arrests were illustrated this morning, in a press conference, which was also attended by the Public Prosecutor of Matera, Pietro Argentino, and in which it was specified that, in total, since last May, approximately eight thousand euros have been defrauded. The investigations began last May, following the complaint of an 85-year-old woman from Oliveto Lucano, who was defrauded of 3.500 euros with the ruse of a fake phone call made by a nephew announcing the arrival by courier of a package with a computer and the need to pay immediately in cash. There are about ten episodes at the center of the operation, but investigators are conducting further investigations to identify the accomplices of the two arrested men and to verify their responsibility in similar episodes that occurred in other regions.
