Rome. Corrupt judges and fixed trials at the Torre Annunziata Civil Court: the first suspects are released from prison. Preliminary Investigations Judge Danise of the Nocera Inferiore Court, who reissued the warrant against Antonio Iannello and his co-defendants, released Castellammare expert Marco Vollono, defended by Gennaro Somma and Dario Luzzetti. He also granted house arrest to Enrico Tramontano Guerritore and Francesco Afeltra of Gragnano. The four were arrested on September 4 by the preliminary investigations judge of the Rome Court as part of an investigation into corruption among the Torre Annunziata justices of the peace. The Rome Review Court, granting a request from the defense attorneys of the 27 suspects, transferred the investigation to the Nocera Inferiore Prosecutor's Office and reissued the pre-trial detention order. The investigation, conducted by the Torre Annunziata Financial Police, uncovered a corruption ring involving Justice of the Peace Antonio Iannello (a lawyer from Scafati), who—in exchange for money—assigned tasks to compliant technical experts and fixed traffic accident cases. Today's releases are the first as part of the investigation. More may follow in the coming days.
