"I firmly deny the accusations made against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything I am and everything I believe in." With these words, Cristiano Ronaldo defended himself yesterday against rape accusations coming from the United States. He was accused by former model Kathryn Mayorga, who claims she was raped at the Palms Resort in Las Vegas in June 2009. And while CR7 defends himself on Twitter and proclaims his innocence, the woman's lawyers are holding a press conference in Las Vegas to assess the situation. Attorney Leslie Stovall, accompanied by her colleague Larissa Drohobyczer, during the Italian night, described their client as "a fragile woman, the victim of severe depression, who over the years has had learning difficulties, suicidal thoughts, and emotional and mental damage" following the alleged sexual assault she suffered in 2009. The lawyers described "nine very difficult years, with severe depression, alcohol abuse, and difficulty maintaining personal relationships and work. The woman, who has since graduated with a degree in journalism, has been in therapy for some time, "but the people who work with her are very optimistic. "She will overcome her problems," said lawyer Stovall, who then added that Katryn Mayorga decided not to appear at the press conference "due to her emotional state." The complaint was filed years later, and the lawyers explained that the former model was convinced thanks to the "#MeToo movement, which gave her a lot of strength and courage." Mayorga's lawyer also explained that he has in his possession documents in which Ronaldo allegedly admitted to his lawyers that the woman had tried to resist sexual intercourse. These documents relate to the agreement reached in 2010 when the Juventus striker paid around 300,000 euros to settle the matter.
