A volunteer firefighter died in San Martino in Badia, in the province of Bolzano, after being hit by a tree fallen by strong winds. The Civil Protection Department announced this. This brings the death toll due to severe weather yesterday to seven. The Army Corps of Engineers from Trento has been mobilized to provide support to the Veneto region, which has been hit by severe weather, and will begin operations tomorrow in the Belluno area, which has been severely affected by rain and wind over the past 48 hours. Civil Protection units from Lombardy, Marche, Piedmont, and Emilia-Romagna will also be deployed. This was the outcome of a video conference held this evening by the Veneto Crisis Unit with the National Civil Protection Department and other Italian regions. Requests have been received from the Belluno area for teams equipped with chainsaws, spider trucks, mini wheel loaders, light towers, traditional shovels, water pumps, and mud pumps to clear the roads as quickly as possible of fallen trees caused by the wind and mud. Regarding waterways, the greatest concern currently concerns the Piave River, which currently has a flow rate of between 2.200 and 2.500 cubic meters per second. The risk of flooding remains real, and monitoring is ongoing in the towns of San Donà, Musile, Eraclea, San Biagio di Callalta, Ponte di Piave, Jesolo, Maserada, and Cimadolmo. For the Adige River, the agreement with Trentino has allowed the drainage tunnel to be opened toward Lake Garda.
