LCivil Protection had alerted 550 municipalities last Sunday, announcing a yellow criticality. The head of staff of the Campania civil protection, Claudia Campobasso, explained how the weather alert was issued in recent days. “In the South we are the only region to have this tool – she says – and also in terms of prevention action Campania has been the one that for decades has had a Civil Protection that has worked better than others”. In fact, the 4-page bulletin sent to all 550 municipalities in the region on Sunday speaks clearly even for a layman. The criticality was yellow, and the color, explains Campobasso, is a code referring only to hydrogeological risk (landslides, floods) connected to the weather risk (rain), not to winds which do not have a specific code; on this front, the indications were clear and detailed, they would blow "strong" in the internal areas and "very strong in the coastal areas", such as that of Naples, also containing the indication: "it is recommended to pay particular attention to the stress of the winds (lampposts, billboards etc.) and the tree-lined areas of the public wind". "I am perplexed to hear that there is no detail - adds the manager - nor can I believe that that bulletin is not included within the institutions. Even two years ago, when the national guidelines changed, we called the officials in charge in the Municipalities and the representatives of the mayors for an in-depth analysis of the new simplified bulletin".
