UAn entire sheet metal wall of a building came off this afternoon due to strong winds in Atripalda. The sheet metal fell on three cars passing along Via Appia. Firefighters from the Avellino provincial command intervened to free the trapped motorists, who were not injured. The bad weather also caused damage in other towns in Irpinia. About a hundred firefighters intervened, especially to remove fallen trees, torn-off roofs and to free flooded basement rooms. The most serious problems were along Via Nazionale in Torrette di Mercogliano, where a team of firefighters secured some unsafe trees after one fell onto the road, damaging some parked cars. In the Amoretta district of Avellino, an intervention was carried out to free the road leading to the Moscati hospital from large branches broken by the wind. In Montella, tiles came off the roofs of some homes, swept away by gusts of wind. Flooding was recorded in the late afternoon in Altavilla Irpina, where mud invaded the streets of the center, especially in the area of Corso Garibaldi.
