IThe strong sirocco wind that is blowing on Naples and a good part of its province has caused branches to fall from trees in various parts of the city. The firefighters are engaged in numerous interventions both in the city and in municipalities of the metropolitan area. Connections with the islands are still interrupted.
Corso Garibaldi and via Tasso were recently closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic due to pieces of the roofing of the terrace of the building located at the beginning of the street, on the Via Vespucci side, and large branches in the first section of the road, in the upper section. The affected sections of the road were closed in both directions. In both cases, the arrival of the firefighters is awaited, as they are busy in other areas of the city. Hundreds of requests for intervention have arrived at the switchboard of the firefighters' operations room. The situation was almost similar in via Toledo where, in front of the headquarters of the Banco di Napoli, some pieces of cornice fell from the building. The area was cordoned off: fortunately, no one was injured. A branch, severed by gusts, fell in Largo Torraca; a similar situation also occurred in the Pianura, Bagnoli and Fuorigrotta neighborhoods. In piazza Bagnoli, a large branch fell, but was removed thanks to the intervention of the Firefighters. Other branches were broken by the wind and fell on viale Kennedy. The firefighters are engaged in numerous interventions both in the city and in municipalities of the metropolitan area. The weather alert already issued by the Civil Protection of the Campania Region and currently in force throughout the regional territory will end tomorrow.
The Management of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii ordered at 13,30:XNUMX p.m., "due to strong winds, the immediate closure of the Pompeii excavations, in order to guarantee the safety of visitors. The fall of large branches also caused damage to a car parked in the parking lot of the former Superintendency. The site will remain closed until the conditions of access and usability are guaranteed, in complete safety. Visitors who have already entered the site have been asked to exit with caution". This is what can be read on the Park's website.
