The Byzantine castle has a clearly visible crack on the wall and on the ruins, for this reason the Mayor of Santa Marina Giovanni Fortunato had issued an ordinance to protect public safety, later the MiBACT itself had announced the allocation of approximately 500 thousand euros, money that to date has not arrived.
"Some time ago I reported the serious situation in which the tower of the Byzantine castle finds itself - explains Mayor Giovanni Fortunato - now I have been forced to send a warning letter to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, owner of the structure, to request concrete intervention, otherwise we will be forced to proceed to the detriment, as an Administration our duty is to safeguard our citizens. The conditions in which the castle finds itself, in addition to putting the safety of the local inhabitants at risk, also imposes the need to recover a work that represents an important testimony of the history and culture of this territory".
