Marcianise. This morning the Carabinieri of the Caserta Company executed an order for a coercive measure (precautionary custody in prison), issued by the GIP of the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office, against Paola Barbaruolo responsible for the crime of theft inside a hospital room of the Caserta Hospital and concurrent violation of the ban on returning to the municipality of Caserta.
The investigations, directed by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, arose from the events that occurred at the Sant' Anna and San Sebastiano Hospital in Caserta on 20 July last, when the Carabinieri of the Caserta Company were alerted by the staff of the aforementioned health facility, following a report from a woman who complained of the theft of a wallet, consumed in the rooms dedicated to the Day Surgery department.
The victim, questioned by the military of the Operational Nucleus of the Caserta Carabinieri Company, declared that, while she was at the Caserta Hospital, where she had gone for diagnostic tests by a family member, her attention had been immediately drawn to a woman, later identified as Paola Barbaruolo, who, suspiciously, was stationed in the department in question, despite apparently having no reason.
The victim, after having momentarily left the hospital room where her relative was, had just returned, and noticed that her bag, previously left on a chair next to the bed, had the zipper open and had been placed on the chair in an irregular way. From an immediate check inside the bag, she found the wallet missing, and asked the woman still present in the room for explanations.
Barbaruolo, at first, denied any responsibility, but when the nurses arrived, attracted by the screams of the victim, she admitted the theft and returned the wallet to the victim. Subsequent investigations, in addition to revealing several criminal records for property crimes, allowed to ascertain that she was burdened by the prohibition of returning to the municipality of Caserta, Applied to her, dated June 14, 2018, and violated when the defendant entered the Caserta hospital to commit this crime.
