MThe officers of the Economic and Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Taranto have executed a preventive seizure order, issued by the investigating judge Vilma Gilli, of some sites, managed by Ilva, located on the northern border of the plant, for a total surface area of approximately 530.000 square meters, transformed into landfills for hazardous waste. The investigations have allowed the identification of over 5 million tons of hazardous and non-hazardous industrial waste. Nine people are under investigation, including temporary administrative and technical managers of Ilva spa from 1995 to 2012, in various capacities, for the crimes of willful environmental disaster, destruction and defacement of natural resources, damage, dangerous dumping of things and failure to clean up polluting sites.
