SThere are already 11 members of the project “Adopt a work of art”, launched by the Correale Museum during the press conference held in Sorrento in the Hall of Mirrors. “The entrepreneurs of the Sorrento peninsula responded immediately with enthusiasm to the initiative – announces the president Gaetano Mauro – Donating for the recovery and protection of their civic heritage is a symbol of great sensitivity and attention not only for our past, but above all for our future”. In synergy with the BAPSAE Superintendency of Naples and the Archaeological Superintendency, 50 works that require conservation and maintenance intervention belonging to the museum heritage have been selected, 20 of which have already been analyzed and estimated. Among these is the painting by Nicola Casissa entitled “Still Life with Flowers and Birds” for which it will already be possible to contribute during the Grand Gala on October 31st. This is an oil on canvas, 39 cm wide and 83 cm high with frame, whose restoration has been estimated at €1020,07, a work by Casissa, a Neapolitan painter from the first thirty years of the eighteenth century, a pupil of Andrea Belvedere. On the evening of Wednesday 31 October at 21:00 pm at the Correale Museum, the Gran Gala Concert will be held, with free admission, in which the first three young people classified in the first edition of the International Opera Singing Competition “Città di Sorrento” promoted by Opera e Lirica with the moral patronage of the Municipality will perform. On this occasion, it will be possible to freely allocate a sum that will contribute to the restoration of the work “Still Life with Flowers and Birds”, thus reconciling music and patronage. “The international opera singing competition represents an opportunity for young people who wish to establish themselves in the fascinating world of opera music – underlines Giuseppina Cuccaro, founder and CEO of the Opera e Lirica company – but also a tribute to the city of Sorrento, where Opera e Lirica annually organizes a series of concerts followed and appreciated by tens of thousands of spectators”. The competition will offer an exceptional showcase for opera talents coming not only from the Sorrento peninsula, Naples and Calabria, but also from China, South Korea, Russia, Bulgaria, Greece and the United States. Accompanied by the pianist provided by the organizers, the competitors will be asked to perform four pieces from the lyrical repertoire of their choice, previously indicated in the application for registration to the competition. The winner will be chosen by a jury chaired by Norma Fantini, internationally renowned soprano and winner of the 2005 edition of the prestigious Puccini Prize, and composed of the composer and conductor Nicola Hansalik Samale, the artist manager Antonio Desiderio and the founder of Opera e Lirica Giuseppina Cuccaro. The first three classified will be awarded prizes of one thousand, 700 and 400 euros respectively, financed by Opera e Lirica with the proceeds of the shows periodically organized by the same company in Italy and abroad.
