Scafati. Extortion, weapons, drugs: nine requests for conviction and one acquittal for the 'lords' of the Scafati racket who, with gunshots and bombs, demanded bribes from the Scafati merchants. Fifty-seven years in prison, this is the total number of years of imprisonment requested this morning by the prosecutor of the DDA Giancarlo Russo to the judge for the preliminary hearings of the Court of Salerno. But this morning's hearing also registered a small defeat for the public prosecution who asked to have some wiretapped telephone conversations included in the trial documents, from which it would have emerged the involvement of Giuseppe Buonocore, son-in-law of the boss Franchino Matrone, believed to be one of the leaders of this criminal group in the trafficking and possession of weapons (machine guns, pistols). The wiretaps, according to what the prosecution has proposed, would have allowed the judge to prove new accusations against Buonocore. According to prosecutors Russo and Silvio Marco Guarriello, re-listening to the conversations 'has brought to light new and more important elements' to enable the judge to reach a guilty verdict not only against Buonocore but also against the other defendants for crimes related to the possession of clandestine weapons (rifles, pistols, machine guns).
But the GUP, accepting the thesis of the defense attorneys, both of Buonocore - Massimo Autieri and Stella Criscuolo - and of the other defendants, considered that the filing was not timely: the conversations acquired in 2017 were already available to the Prosecutor's Office before the preliminary hearing was set, so much so that the Prosecutor's Office also acknowledged it.
But that evidence might not be lost (all the defendants have requested a summary trial) but could be a good starting point for new accusations against the subjects involved, all orbiting around the figure of Franchino Matrone and his son-in-law Buonocore.
At the end of the prosecution, the prosecutor Russo formalized the requests for sentences that will be evaluated by the Judge for the preliminary hearings, against Peppe Buonocore, son-in-law of the boss of Scafati, Franchino Matrone 'a belva, Francesco Berritto, Vincenzo Muollo, Pasquale Palma of Torre Annunziata, Nicola Patrone, resident in Giugliano in Campania, Elvira Improta, Vincenzo Nappo, known as 'o nonno, Giovanni Barbato Crocetta, Antonio Palma of Boscoreale and Marcello and Pasquale Panariello, sons of Improta. The defendants are accused, to varying degrees, of complicity in attempted aggravated extortion, weapons, possession of narcotics, with the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method. Last May, four of them ended up in jail. According to investigators, they asked for bribes by using bombs and bullets. Three extortion attempts took place between August and December of last year against an entrepreneur in the Scafati area, contested to the defendants who, referring to their membership in the Matrone clan of Scafati, asked the merchants to pay the protection money. Among the various contested attacks, one against the sign of the Roxe Legend Bar in via Melchiade owned by the Buonocore family. Another in front of the betting center in via Martiri d'Ungheria "Fly Play". And again, shots from a 7,65 caliber gun against the La Dolce Vita bar of Giuseppina Generali, wife of Dario Spinelli (now a repentant) to finish in August 2017 when the Acqua e Sale fish shop in via Montegrappa ended up in the crosshairs (according to investigators, the attack was committed by the Panariello brothers) and the Nico Style hairdressing shop of Nicola Tamburo. The Antimafia in its investigation conclusion also contested the letter from prison that Panariello sent to his brother in which the prisoner's will to make the gun used in the attack on the fishmonger's restaurant disappeared. Then in December, the extortion of the owner of a tobacconist by Giovanni Barbato Crocetta. According to the investigators, the criminal actions had been ordered by Peppe Buonocore who, precisely to the judges of the Review Court of Salerno, reiterated that he was not the architect of any clan and the Court confirmed that there was no mafia facilitation in the criminal actions.
