Mugnano. When he heard the arrival of the carabinieri he burned all the possible traces that could lead the investigators to the accomplices, to those who took care of the fugitive, to those who helped him. But he did not have time to set fire to everything. In fact, the carabinieri found in the Mugnano hideout, where Antonio Orlando mazzulill was hiding, also a half-burnt identity card with his photo. Antonio Orlando, 60 years old, believed to be the regent of the “Orlando-Nuvoletta-Polverino” Camorra clan operating in the hinterland north of the Campania capital.
The man, included in the list of the most dangerous fugitives in Italy, had been wanted for 15 years having against him 2 Prison Detention Orders for mafia-type association issued by the GIP at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate.
In the Mugnano villa, strategic because it was a short distance from the clan's fiefdom in Marano, but also close to major roads, given that it was a temporary hideout, the boss had every kind of comfort, especially those needed to keep fit, such as a treadmill, a tanning bed and a sauna, in the attic of the apartment he occupied in a three-story building in a quiet residential area. A temporary hideout, which also included a secret refuge. In fact, under the sauna seat, there was a trap door that led to a blind recess. A way to avoid possible checks, even if only temporarily, and which however required a second person in the apartment, because the locking mechanism could only be activated from the outside. And there was also something else, which he, before the arrival of the carabinieri, tried to set on fire. Namely, correspondence, perhaps even notes and identity documents. In the house of a three-story building, in fact, Orlando tried to destroy an identity card with his photo but with another name, as well as a tax code and a university card. He surrendered immediately, without putting up resistance or trying to escape. Indeed, as reported in a press conference by the provincial commander of the Carabinieri, Ubaldo del Monaco, "he raised his hands in a sign of surrender". The Carabinieri also seized 6 thousand euros in cash, many documents and letters, some of which the clan leader also tried to burn. Among those that were about to be engulfed in flames, the identity card with the photo of the sixty-year-old but the data and personal details of another person. According to investigators, the letters, the "pizzini", were his way of communicating with the outside world, in these long years of being a fugitive, protected by a dense network woven around him by the gang. Antonio Orlando is a close relative of the Nuvolettas, as is his entire family, since an Orlando married the head of the Nuvoletta clan, the only Camorra group in Campania federated with Cosa Nostra and strongly linked to the Corleonesi. Two phones owned by Antonio Orlando were also seized.
