Dwill have to manage the ordinary administration of the Municipality of Avellino until new elections, which could be held by next summer. Prefect Giuseppe Priolo was appointed prefectural commissioner, after last Saturday the City Council voted no confidence in the mayor of Avellino, Vincenzo Ciampi, elected on June 24. Priolo, 66, from Messina, was prefect of Trapani and vice-prefect of Milan. He has been retired since August 2017, but before leaving his prefectural career he managed as commissioner several municipalities dissolved for mafia infiltration. He will be supported by sub-commissioners Silvana D'Agostino and Mario Tommasino. This is the third time in fifteen years that the Municipality of Avellino has been placed under special administration for early dissolution. The first time was in 2003, when the then mayor Antonio Di Nunno resigned almost two years before the natural expiration of his second mandate. Then came 2012 when Mayor Giuseppe Galasso resigned. On the table of the new commissioner there are several urgent dossiers. First of all the accounting situation of the Authority, on the verge of bankruptcy due to an administrative deficit exceeding 40 million euros. The outgoing mayor would have wanted the City Council to approve the declaration of bankruptcy before proceeding with the no-confidence vote. Also to be addressed is the regulation of urban traffic, due to the exceeding of PM10 levels for over 35 days and above all the management of some construction sites financed with European funds that have been blocked for months and risk remaining unfinished.
