Environmental groups have issued an SOS regarding open-air landfills in various areas of the Vesuvius National Park, and a dossier has been filed with the Naples prosecutor's office.
The 21 environmental associations defending the park area have prepared a dossier with photos and videos to document the situation. This morning, they captured piles of garbage, scrap construction materials, tires, asphalt sheathing, fabrics, and old mattresses. "Amid all the political chatter, the situation is getting out of hand," says Marco Ricci, president of the Vesuvius Environment and Health association and priest of the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in Ercolano. "The area is being increasingly devastated every day, and there's no control over those who are uncivilized and delinquent." We need to do a great job on criminals and uncivilized people by making them understand that they are killing themselves and also making those who have to monitor them, namely the police, politicians, and the Vesuvius National Park Authority, understand that they must do their duty well." A new SOS on the alarming situation was also launched by Ciro Teodonno, president of the Mountain Environment Protection Commission - Italian Alpine Club. "In those areas, even after a partial cleanup, dumping and discharge continues without this flow being stopped." The dossier of the associations in defense of Vesuvius, complete with mapping of dumping and abandonment of waste in the protected areas, was presented to the Naples prosecutor's office, the mayors and the Park Authority.
