Casandrino. Ghost factory in Casandrino: seizure triggered. During territorial inspections conducted for environmental protection, Carabinieri from the Naples Environmental, Agri-food, and Forestry Investigative Unit inspected the premises of a shoe sole factory in Casandrino, in the hinterland north of Naples affected by the so-called "Land of Fires" phenomenon. On site, the officers determined that although the operating company was inactive, production continued "under the radar," violating, as will be seen, all precautions required by environmental protection regulations. Eleven people were found working within the company whose employment records were not verified by social security or social security. The management of special waste, both hazardous and non-hazardous, resulting from the production cycle was found to be completely illegal; the emission of fumes into the atmosphere was also illegal; and waste loading and unloading records were completely neglected. The 510-square-meter premises contained 54 plastic bags containing hazardous waste from the manufacturing process. CCTV footage shows that some of the waste had been dumped on the side of a country road in Casandrino by a worker specifically assigned to dispose of it by the 38-year-old company owner, who had even provided him with his car for transportation.
