Italian television is in excellent health, thanks above all to investigative programs that attract the attention of millions of viewers. These programs draw from the most mature targets. Others draw from younger pools, such as one of the flagship programs of Mediaset and, in particular, of the network directed by Laura Casarotto, Italia 1: “Le Iene”.
Hyenas, aired last night, is a program followed by a younger target, as mentioned, which however is very attentive to topics that pique interest and that generate, in any case, a critical vision of the reality in which we live. The very successful Mediaset program often presents mocking and youth-themed services, which very easily explains the difference in audience. According to the numbers, in the 2017-2018 season they obtained an average audience of 2.127.200 viewers, corresponding to 10,7% share. A nice leap forward compared to the previous season: +15% audience, +1,5 percentage points of share. The audience is transversal, only slightly more female (53% of the total audience), similar to the younger age groups: it is watched by only 13% of the over 65s and in this cluster it obtained an average of 4% share. Instead, it reaches 22% share in the 20-34 age group and 17% share in the 35-44 age group.
As for the audience data by region, in first place we find Basilicata and Puglia with over 14% of average share. Followed by Calabria and Sicily with about 12%. Emilia Romagna (7%), Tuscany (8%), Liguria and Veneto (9%) are the territories where the broadcast totals an audience result lower than the national average.
Another hugely successful investigative program is Report, broadcast on Rai Tre every Monday. One of the latest investigations of the program hosted by Sigfrido Ranucci, which later achieved huge success, concerned the alleged relationships between Juventus and the 'ndrangheta for the control of tickets on sale at the Juventus Stadium.
Moving on to analyze the audience data, the Rai investigation program stands at 1.646.000 viewers and a share of 6,3%. Under Ranucci's guidance, the ratings of "Report" settled at 1,5 million viewers and a 6,1% share, with the program closing the season with an overall average of 1,8 million viewers and 7,2% share. The profile of the program's viewer is equivalent for both sexes (slightly ahead of the male profile at 51%) and located mainly in the more mature segments of the population: approximately 60% of viewers are over 55, 36% over 65; the under 45s are on average 21%.
The Report program is most successful in the regions of North East and Central Italy. In first place is Veneto with 9% of Share, followed by Sardinia with 8,6%, Lazio with 7,5% of share. Below average are the regions of the South. Sicily (3,5%), Campania (3,7%), Puglia (5,6%).
