LThe Court of Appeal of Genoa has sentenced the former leader of the League, Umberto Bossi, to 1 year and 10 months of imprisonment and the former treasurer of the Carroccio, Francesco Belsito, to 3 years and 9 months, in the trial for the maxi fraud against the State on electoral reimbursements. The judges also confirmed the confiscation of 49 million euros from the League. The trial also involved three auditors, Antonio Turci and Diego Sanavio, who were sentenced to 8 months and Stefano Aldovisi, who was sentenced to 4 months. In the first instance Bossi had been sentenced to 2 years and 6 months and Belsito to 4 years and 10 months. The sentences for the former secretary and the former treasurer of the Carroccio were reduced because the statute of limitations had intervened on some charges, such as the aggravated fraud dating back to 2008. Meanwhile, after the confirmation of the confiscation of the 49 million euros, the debt payment will continue. In September, the Genoese magistrates and the current treasurer of the League, Giulio Centemero, had in fact agreed to the payment of 100 thousand euros every two months.
