“On October 27, the arson attack at the Lea storage facility in Marcianise. Two days later, Arpac published the first data that highlighted a concentration of dioxin 160 times higher than the limit threshold.
We had to wait until November 2 for Arpac to send the mayor of Marcianise the figures from the sampling carried out on the presence of dioxin and furans above emergency levels, with the request to issue an order to close off the entire area for a radius of 300 meters from the detection station. In the meantime, employees and workers continued to work and frequent an area saturated with poisons, with serious risks to their health”.
This is what the regional councilor of the 5 Star Movement Maria Muscarà denounces
“There remains the absolute negligence on the part of Arpac regarding the results of samplings which, to date, remain stuck on 29 October. Taking into account that the ban on the area will last until further communication on the outcome of new samplings, it is not justifiable that there has not yet been any update.
Just as it is necessary – concludes Muscarà – to also carry out a survey of the level of pollutants deposited on surrounding land and cultivated fields. Banning an entire area is not enough.
We need to alert citizens and consumers and draw up a catalogue of behaviours and advice on the purchase and consumption of food products”.
