DThe old seventeenth-century building is still standing only the historic facade designed by Cosimo Fanzago who also enriched it with friezes and statues, which were then stolen after the earthquake of '80. For years, what remains of the ancient Dogana dei Grani of Avellino has been supported by metal scaffolding installed by order of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Avellino, which six years ago ordered, for reasons of public safety, the seizure. Today, from the facade that stands on Via Nappi, in the historic center of Avellino, debris and plaster have come loose, to the point that residents have called for the intervention of the fire brigade. For several hours the fire brigade worked to secure the unsafe parts, removing the suspended or falling parts. The side street, which also gives access to some public places, has been closed to traffic. There are fears that with the heavy rains of the last few days and those to come, the facade of the historic building may also collapse, without a restoration and redevelopment project having ever been adopted.
