Fake revenue stamps between Naples and Caserta, lawyers and driving schools involved, 101 investigated.
Executed by order of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Naples, 6 precautionary measures were taken against the same number of members of a criminal organization responsible for counterfeiting, introduction into the territory of the State, possession and circulation of counterfeit banknotes and stamped stamps and aggravated fraud against the State and 5 searches against the same number of people.
The investigation, conventionally called “Il Rosso”, started in October 2016 and aimed at countering a well-organized and structured criminal group operating in the Campania area in the production and distribution of stamped paper and counterfeit banknotes, follows four other important operations in the specific sector of counterfeit stamped paper, “Marche Legali” in November 2014, “Cicero” in July 2015, “Falco” in December 2016 and “Toghe Pulite” in July 2017. The development of the investigation, delegated to the Carabinieri Anti-Counterfeiting Monetary Command by the Deputy Prosecutor at the Naples Prosecutor's Office, Dr. Giuseppe Cimmarotta, has allowed us to reconstruct a new channel for the distribution of counterfeit stamps, filed with the TAR of Naples, the judicial offices, the Public Automobile Registry and the Motorization of the provinces of Naples and Caserta, with a high financial damage currently being quantified.
The investigative activity has allowed over time to:
locate two clandestine laboratories set up for the production of counterfeit revenue stamps;
arrest the four forgers red-handedly found in possession of equipment and material suitable for producing counterfeit revenue stamps;
to report at liberty two people responsible for the possession and distribution of false electronic tokens;
arrest a subject found in possession of 249 counterfeit €50,00 banknotes.
Among the various members of the organization, which operated in the provinces of Naples and Caserta, there are 6 lawyers from the Naples and Avellino courts and 5 owners of car agencies, who have consistently used fake stamps at the aforementioned offices. One hundred and one people are under investigation and who within a month, a month and a half, could become defendants, as a result of a request for indictment formulated by the same Aversa-Naples North prosecutor's office that in recent days has had the provisions notified so that the defendants can exercise, if they choose to do so, the first rights to defense, consisting in the possibility of being heard by the prosecutors or of presenting defense briefs.
What is looming on the horizon, at the Aversa-Napoli Nord court, is, in fact, a sort of maxi trial. Many professionals are implicated, among which the names of several lawyers, both criminal and civil, stand out. The charges against the suspects are of conspiracy to commit fraud and forgery. The case concerns the alleged use of counterfeit revenue stamps by lawyers for legal procedures. Counterfeit stamps were purchased, at a lower price than the original, which were then used on legal documents relating to the judicial procedures that the clerks, convinced that the stamps were authentic, initiated. The investigation, however, is not completed for another strand of it, aimed at establishing the origin of the counterfeit stamps.
